- What is an SSL certificate?
- An SSL (or TLS) certificate encrypts the data exchanged between your browser and the server. It also vouches for the site’s identity, through the certificate authority that signed it.
- My certificate expires soon — what should I do?
- Renew it before it lapses. Most hosts offer automatic renewal through Let’s Encrypt. An expired certificate shows visitors a security warning.
- What is the difference between DV, OV and EV?
- DV (Domain Validation) only checks control of the domain. OV (Organization Validation) also verifies the organisation. EV (Extended Validation) applies the strictest checks. For most sites, DV is enough.
